Ombudsman Act and Regulations

The Ombudsman Act establishes the Ombudsman as an officer of the House of Assembly and a commissioner for investigations. The authority for most investigations handled by the Office of the Ombudsman is derived from the Ombudsman Act.

In accordance with the Ombudsman Act, the Office of the Ombudsman responds to and investigates citizens’ concerns arising from the administration of provincial and municipal laws within Nova Scotia. The Ombudsman may also initiate own motion investigations, conduct systemic reviews and investigations, and investigate matters referred by a Committee of the House.
