On October 8, 2020, we celebrate Ombudsman Day! The day is a celebration of the important role played by Ombudsman Offices around the world. Not all Ombudsman Offices are the same, but we share a lot in common. Most exist to foster confidence in the services they oversee by exercising their responsibility to hold them accountable.

Ombudsman Annual Report Released
The Annual Report of the Office of the Ombudsman for 2019-2020 reflects normal pre-pandemic operations, but also includes achievements and case examples, says Ombudsman William Smith.

Update on Service Delivery:
While the Office of the Ombudsman remained open during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a limited number of in-person services were suspended in keeping with Public Health guidelines.

2018-19 Annual Report

Office open September 10
The Office of the Ombudsman will re-open Tuesday, September 10, at 8:30am.
Office Closure - Ongoing Power Outage
The Office of the Ombudsman will be closed Monday, September 9, due to a power outage.

Court of Appeal reaffirms Ombudsman's Authority
On June 12, 2019, the authority of the Nova Scotia Ombudsman was reaffirmed by the following court of appeal decision:
Ombudsman Launches new website
Nova Scotia Ombudsman William A. Smith announced today the launch of a brand new Ombudsman website.
The renewal of the Ombudsman website was undertaken to improve public access to Ombudsman content and to make the complaint process easier for potential complainants.
“There has been a significant increase in online complaints in the last few years,” noted Executive Director Christine Brennan, “we recognize that Nova Scotians are going online more often to access services.”
